These are no more durable than any other coated pans (yes, the titanium/ceramic is still a coating on the aluminum). Eventually, they all come apart under heavy use.
The whole set is flaking or corroding or peeling.
The sales pitch was that you could use metal utensils (we didn’t) and they were the best pans available.
If you treat these with kid gloves, MAYBE the coating will last a couple of years or so.
Tried to return for warranty, and the package was refused by ScanpanUSA.
Save your money. Buy something thick and cheap and take care of it. Use your money to buy a spare.
Great pan! I have used at home and at the restaurant. It can take the heat in the oven and nothing sticks to it. Easy to clean too. I can use metal utensils and it still won’t scratch.
This is a quality fry pan. I had an older model in the same size that was my favorite workhorse, lasted many years, and never warped. It’s the best non-stick because it’s a healthier version, works, and cleans up easily. Wash it while it’s still slightly warm and it’s a breeze! Pricey but worth it.
The ScanPan pots are made from PTFE. PTFE is the chemical name of Teflon. PTFE and Teflon are known to cause cancer in laboratory animals such as rodents. In particular liver and kidney cancer is the most common. So you’d be crazy to cook on PTFE which also by the way emits fumes that kills birds. Stay far away from ScanPan pots and pans for you good health. Buy stainless steel or ceramic coated iron or pure titanium coated aluminum pots. Then at least you can feel good about the food you cook.
I had owned a small Scanpan fry pan for over 10 years, and though its titanium surface had discolored slightly, its nonstick properties remained undiminished. Two years ago I added this 12.5 inch fry pan, and it is a delight just like its littler but older brother. Perfect for anything that needs the extra room… bacon strips, omelets, fish, pancakes. Great for reductions, though the low sides can make splashover a factor if one isn’t careful. The base will take a tiny circle of heat and distribute it evenly all over the pan. I’ve been using this pan several times a week and its quality is as spectacular today as the day it came out of the box. I have since upgraded much of my cookware to products from the Scanpan Professional line, and my only regret is that the 12.5″ fry pan didn’t come from that series, as then it would match the rest! Scanpans are tough, it is titanium after all, but take good care of them anyway. Don’t use excessive heat, don’t use them to store food, don’t put them in a dishwasher, don’t leave them to soak in the sink… clean them straight away. Treat your Scanpans like any fine cookware and they should last a lifetime.
